Delta Apparel Announces the Closing of Its Domestic Sewing Plant
DULUTH, Ga., Jun 11, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Delta Apparel, Inc. (AMEX: DLA) announces the closure of its Washington, Georgia sewing facility.
Bob Humphreys, President and CEO, stated, "We regret having to make such a difficult decision that affects our associates in this manner. However, with the increasing competitive nature of our business, we could no longer justify the additional cost associated with running a domestic sewing facility." The closing of the last domestic sewing plant completes the Company's movement of sewing to offshore and will save the Company over $1 million of operating expenses annually.
Of the 106 individuals impacted by the closing, several associates have been offered positions in another Delta Apparel facility. Production operations in Washington, Georgia are expected to end by August 29, 2001. The Company will take an expense of approximately $200,000 in June related to the closing of this facility.
